During his time as a sabbatical officer at the University of Bath Students’ Union, Andy realised that many of the challenges the union was trying to solve 'for' students could be better faced by working with and alongside the student body. Quickly, his role became less about making decisions on behalf of students-as-consumers, and more about facilitating students-as-citizens. Since joining New Citizen Project in 2019, Andy has worked to apply this approach in organisations of all kinds; leading innovation projects in the health and care system, local government, national charities and mission-led businesses. Andy worked extensively on the co-creation and prototyping of new participation and membership approaches with the Q Community and the National Autistic Society, as well as leading on New Citizen Project's work building capacity in the Singaporean Government as part of their Forward Singapore programme. He is also on the board of Empathy Week, an education festival using the power of film to develop the skill of empathy in students all over the world.
